The Chevening Secretariat is pleased to announce the Chevening/British Library Fellowship for the 2016/2017 academic year. This is a brand new Award for the 2016/2017 cycle and we are pleased to be able to offer up to 2 awards. Chevening British Library Fellows will undertake a 12-month period of independent study and research at the British Library in London.
There are two distinct Fellowship opportunities:
- News and Media in South Asia
- Big Data and Libraries.
Eligibility: Applicants can apply for this scholarship if they hold a post graduate degree or have equivalent professional training and/or experience. Two fellowship opportunities are available listed below:-
Theme 1: News and Media in South Asia: Past and Present
Theme 1: News and Media in South Asia: Past and Present
- Degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to the British Library’s Asian and African language collections
- Degree-level knowledge of at least one modern South Asian language
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Interest in library collections, and in learning about the curatorial work of a large library
- Knowledge of, and interest in, newspapers and news media
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills, with experience working with databases and/or with metadata an advantage.
Theme 2: Big data and libraries
- Degree or equivalent in a subject relevant to data science and/or information technology and/or librarianship
- Excellent written and spoken English
- The project will focus on policy, strategy and business models, rather than technology solutions, but the candidate will need a sufficient technical knowledge to be able to understand big data projects and digital environment
- Interest in digital and data-driven innovation
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills
